Mulberry Community Library
Mulberry Sesquicentennial InfoVolunteer Sign up sheets are available at the Library. We need people to help taking shifts to watch the displays at the Library and at Mulberry Health & Retirement. We also will need some help on our 1958 Movie Nights. Please see the calendar of events to get dates and times and call the library to sign up if you're interested! Thanks for the help!!! We appreciate you! The Mulberry Library is planning on
having historical displays throughout the library and other select
locations in town. Right now, we currently need more Mulberry
historical items to display that includes, anything to do with old
businesses, anything regarding the Centennial, vintage clothing, or any
other historical information you would like to have displayed. These
items would be on loan to the library during the Sesquicentennial only and
would be returned to the owner. We will strive to make the
collections as secure as possible by having them in display cases or by
having them watched by loyal volunteers. To check out more information about the Sesquicentennial and its list of events go to http://www.mintel.net/sesquicentennial.htm. Summer Reading Programs! All of the proceeds go to the Friends to support the Mulberry Community Library. The bags are black with blue trim with multiple pockets and an adjustable hip-length shoulder strap. Visit the library to see the bags and for purchasing details. Art ExhibitedAlso on display are Maori masks from New Zealand that were donated by Gene and Linda Marshall. The masks are carved representations of ancestors, with eyes inset with paua shells. The two carved faces are examples of ancestor figures and are similar to those found on Maori meeting houses. The faces usually look fierce, often with the mouth open, the tongue sticking out, and the eyes protruding. The expression is aggressive and looks like the grimaces that Maoris make during war dances in order to intimidate their opponents. The lines on the masks mirror Maori tattoos, which they traditionally had on their faces to make them look fierce and scare off their enemies. The masks on display at the library were carved in Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand, a center of Maori culture and the site of Te Puia, an institute for preserving and encouraging Maori culture, especially wood and jade (greenstone) carving, and flax weaving. Volunteers WantedCurrent volunteer opportunities are available.
