We Took To The Woods by Louise Dickinson Rich - recommended by Libby

In her early thirties, Louise Dickinson Rich took to the woods with her husband, a former Chicago businessman. They found their livelihood and raised a family in the remote Maine backcountry settlement of Middle Dam.  Louise made time after morning chores to write about their lives, and her first book, We Took To The Woods was published in 1942, becoming an immediate national best seller and Book-of-the-Month selection.  Fifty years later, her wonderful book is still in print and captivating another generation of readers.  This is probably my favorite read of all time and I highly recommend it for everyone who loves a good story.

Colter: The True Story about the Best Dog I ever Had by Rick Bass - recommended by Michelle

Once again:  For pet lovers only!  I’m both a cat AND a dog lover.  This one is non-fiction and heart touching.

Enslaved by Ducks by Bob Tarte - recommended by Libby

Newly married Michiganders Bob and Linda Tarte moved to the country per her desire, and soon she talked him into acquiring a rabbit to add to their two cats.  One animal led to another, until there were more of them...  Chapter by chapter the author humorously introduces each new pet and how he and his wife relate to each animal and how they experience the animal relating to them.  Written in a “Dave Barry” style of writing, this vastly entertaining book is a must read for animal lovers and animal rescuers.
