Reader's Page

Welcome to our reader's page! Our staff came together to create a listing of books that have either stood the test of time, gave us deeper insight into the human condition, made us laugh, made us cry, or simply they deprived us of sleep because we couldn't put them down!

They are categorized into genres for your convenience. Books that we have in our collection are accompanied by a link that will send you that book's WebPac entry. WebPac is our online catalog where you can see if a certain book is available to be checked out, make reserves and search the collections of other libraries from around the US.

Each month, we will have a featured selection along with a short synopsis further down on this page. Please come back regularly to see new additions and reviews!

This Month's Featured Selection:

The Ha-Ha By Dave King

Dave King’s compelling, compassionate debut novel revolves around Howie, who suffered a devastating head injury in Vietnam and he cannot speak, read, or write.  Now middle-aged and withdrawn from most human contact except for his three housemates Howard lives a dull existence in the house where he grew up.  When Sylvia, an old girlfriend, asks Howie to care for Ryan, her nine-year-old biracial son, while she goes to a detox center, Howie reluctantly accepts this responsibility. Howie and his housemates gradually come together as a united front with a purpose in life as they lovingly and responsibly rally for this child.  Howie dreads Sylvia’s return from rehab- will Howie and his housemates slip back to indifference and irresponsibility once Ryan is out of their lives?

This novel provides an in depth look at the importance of having a reason to live, not just exist.  The story line is terrific as the four adults begin to mature and provide stability to this child who changed their lives for the better.  Readers will remember this very moving and unforgettable story for a long time.
