YEAR 2000 READINESS DISCLOSURE (Y2K)

As you may be aware, computer industry experts have identified a potential problem relating to the Year 2000. The "Y2K" problem results from the inability of some computer systems to recognize two digit representations of the calendar year in dates as signifying a date after the year 1999. This problem can have serious implications if not addressed adequately.

Frankfort City Light and Power, your electric utility company, is making every effort to ensure that its system and facilities will operate without any interruptions caused by the "Y2K" problem. Frankfort City Light and Power has been investigating and is continuing to investigate the potential effect of the Y2K problems on our computer-controlled equipment and facilities. In our efforts to alleviate any problems, Frankfort City Light and Power has undertaken numerous initiatives including: inventorying equipment and facilities likely to be affected, hiring experts, hiring consultants, contacting hardware and software vendors, upgrading hardware and software as needed and communicating with outside service providers to ensure that they are addressing the problem. As our investigation proceeds, we will seek to remedy any problems that are identified. Indiana Municipal Power Agency, our wholesale power provider, has also taken steps to ensure that its equipment and facilities will function effectively on and after January 1, 2000.

As you may be aware, the electric utility industry is highly interconnected and interdependent. As a result, a problem with another utility's system could affect Frankfort City Light & Power. However, the potential for Y2K problems is being investigated by utilities across the country as well as by industry reliability groups such as the East Central Area REliability Council and the North American Electric Reliability Council.
