A little Grease Can Cause Big Problems

;Grease Trap
How Can We Prevent This Problem?
As you know, grease blockages in sewer pipes are a direct result of grease that is poured down the drain. The Fat Trapper is the answer to proper disposal of unwanted cooking grease and is already in use by various Wastewater Departments around the nation to help them "Trap the Grease."

What is the Fat Trapper

The Fat Trapper

The Fat Trapper is a plastic, airtight container that holds a foil lined bag. Simply pour hot cooking grease into the bag, seal, and replace the lid. It eliminates spills and odors, while protecting your plumbing system. When the bag is full, simply remove, seal, and discard.

How much could we save by using the Fat Trapper?

The estimated Annual cost of cleaning grease from the Frankfort Sanitary Sewer Collection System, various lift stations and Wastewater Treatment facility: $10,000.

The city of Frankfort Municipal Utilities is taking a proactive step to help defray the annual O&M cost of the wastewater system, in turn helping keep an eye on the rates that our customers pay. In addition, you are helping to meet one of the steps outlined in the Combined Sewer Overflow Long Term Control Plan of reducing the floatables discharged into Prairie Creek.

Blockages in sewer lines begin when grease and solids collect on the interior top and sides of a pipe. The buildup increases as additional solids and grease are sent into the system, typically poured down drains.

The result of these blockages can lead to sewer overflows and the long term deterioration of the collection system, lift stations and treatment facilities as well as increased annual maintenance costs.
