2002 TTHM - 4th quarter
(Total Trihalomethanes)

Our TTHM testing is done quarterly, and there are two sets of tests, one for each treatment plant. Our treatment plants are listed as "entry points". The newer plant, on McKinley Avenue, is EP#1, and the older plant on East Washington Street is EP#2. TTHM testing is done at points of maximum residence time in the system. Each of the two points have been selected to represent one of the two treatment plants.

The maximum allowable limit on Total Trihalomethanes is 100 ug/l, and that level is to be lowered to 80 ug/l in the near future. At the present time, Frankfort will not have a problem with that lowering. Total Trihalomethanes are associated with the disinfection process, and are attritubutable to the addition of Chlorine to the water system. Reactions between the Chlorine and elements within the water, produce Trihalomethane compounds.

The analysis of these tests was done by Environmental Labs, Inc. of Madison, Indiana.
